Newborn and Baby Session Guide - What To Expect

Anyone who knows me knows I love little baby bundles. I have three (not so newborn) little ones of my own and believe me when I say the newborn stage flies by in a blur of sleepless nights, feeding, nappy changes and 'Oh my goodness, how am I going to cope!?' phases (you will cope, trust me).

In 2015 I made the best decision ever to photograph newborns and families in their own environments or somewhere that was special to them - children are always happiest in their own surroundings where they're comfortable and have all their toys and comforters to hand.

When I look back on my own images of my children I love the fact that I can see how their nursery looked, the clothes they wore and toys they played with. The way our house looked at the time. In all my newborn and family in home sessions I aim to document each of these details and give you memories of a time that will pass too quickly.

As a new parent you'll likely feel tired and ecstatic all at the same time! Please don't worry about having a perfectly clean and tidy house. Having had three babies myself I know exactly what life is like with a demanding new little person at home and I fully expect to see baby grows everywhere, bottles in the sink, muslins over shoulders!

Your little one is absolutely perfect exactly the way they are so I won't try to place them in unnatural poses or outfits. I also don't mind if they'd prefer to sleep the whole way through their session or be wide awake, taking it all in and enjoying the attention! We will let your baby guide the session and we can break as much as is needed for feeds and changes.

If siblings are with us during the session we'll aim to capture their time together first as they may lose interest quickly. I have no expectations from big brothers and sisters and won't force them into doing anything they don't want to. It's a big change for them having a new little sibling around. I'll make sure they feel just as special though! One of the best things I love to do with siblings is to ask them to read a story or sing a song to their new baby. There's then no pressure. I have a few more tricks up my sleeve though don't worry!

As with all my sessions there is never the need to smile at the camera or feel uncomfortable or awkward. All I ask you to do is be yourselves, interact with each other, snuggle, feed the baby, play - all the fun stuff! I guarantee the photos you take away will mean so much to you - natural smiles, lots of emotion and little moments. And I'll even capture those beautiful little baby toes, the way their hair curls, perfect eyelashes and tiny fingers (and even the pets can join in!)
